Bought Me A New-Used Leica 21mm F4 Super-Angulon-R Lens

Bought my Eugene Richards  super wide angle social documentary lens just now. After a bunch of negotiating a nice fella in Norway he sold me his lens. The cost was a reasonable $449 USD plus $40 for shipping.

The lens looks to be in very condition and includes the all important indestructible Leica lens hood. I hope to use the lens extensively this next trip to Asia at the dump and elsewhere. It is rather slow at F4 but allows for very close focusing of 10inches. I also have this lens size for my rangefinder M cameras (21mm f2.8) but have had some difficulties shooting it effectively. I hope having this super wide lens on a SLR camera (Leica R series) will make it easier for me to focus and shoot up close to my subjects. Going to get a bit funky with the lens!!

Note* The lens also comes with original back and front caps. Leica sure does make quality gear. Everything I bought today is robust and strong, perfect for shooting in places like the dump where your camera kit is pushed to the limit.
Note** Now that is enough camera gear buying Gerry!! Time to save hard for Thai, the trip is closing in fast.

Here is the little write up, the seller included with the lens on eBay:

About this product

Product Information
Leica introduced the Super Angulon-R 21mm f/4 camera lens in 1968 and continued manufacturing it for 25 years. These 21mm f/4 lenses continue to be used among professionals, enthusiast photographers, and photography collectors. These 21mm Leica products with all accessories intact are still available. The lenses remain a great option for Canon and other 35mm cameras, particularly when you need a super-wide angle. It can capture an expansive landscape or cityscape but also provides the control and focus needed to zoom in tight on a subject. The Super Angulon-R 21mm f/4 was designed and manufactured for Leica by Angulon, which is another German optics company. The joint venture between Leica and Angulon resulted in a high-quality build for everyday use. The barrel, aperture ring, and focusing ring are all constructed of metal and built to last over the long-term. The rings turn smoothly with no resistance and snap into place with a click that you can hear and feel. This helps you be certain that they’ll stay secure once you’ve set them in the desired position. The design of this optical lens employs 10 elements organized into eight groups. The smallest possible aperture is f/22. You can move the ring from min to max and back in increments of a half f-stop. As one would expect due to the metal construction, these lenses are at the heavier end of the range. They weigh about 14.4 ounces, or 410 grams. This lends them a sturdiness when attached. The product is quite compact in dimensions. It measures just 3.07 by 2.1 inches, or 78 by 53.5 millimeters. This is small and portable enough to leave attached to your camera. You could also carry it with you in a pouch or case or on a utility belt. The barrel will extend somewhat when focusing in on a subject. The minimum focal length is 8 inches, or 20 centimeters. The product is compatible with the 72mm filter size and the screw-in type. As part of the Leica series, this includes the Series 8.5 gear. Leica designed this 21mm f/4 lens for 35mm film and photo equipment. However, it is suitable to many DSLRs, particularly the APS-C type. The focusing style is manual and usage is traditional. Focusing is usually achieved by using the DOF scale provided on the barrel. You just set the aperture, set the focus, use the viewfinder, and take your shot. A metal lens hood is included. In terms of barrel distortion, you can expect it to be about 1.25%. That level of distortion is in the expected range for super-wide-angle lenses. The Leica Super Angulon-R 21mm f.4 lens remains a reliable piece of technology. Image performance is excellent, and the optical glass has been designed to limit chromatic and other aberrations. This 21mm piece of hardware also gives you great control over your shot, which helps you be sure you'll capture what you want. Professionals can appreciate the control, and amateurs can appreciate that this product will continue providing benefits as their skills grow.
