We all view people differently, I recently had a rather heated email discussion with a friend about tax funding for the arts and the importance of photographing people. He wrote me of his lack of faith in humanity, and the fact he did not want to worship them through photography. I kind of see where my friend is coming from, there is so much negativity associated with humanity, its easy to get lost in all that. I feel we must work harder to show the goodness, the beauty we all possess, the common lives we all share. We all need to feed the good dog inside ourselves (the last quote).
“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is like an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”
― Mother Teresa
“It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
“A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men.”
― Gloria Steinem
“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.”
― Dalai Lama XIV, The Art of Happiness
“Every one of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies, you will not find another.”
― Carl Sagan, Cosmos
“Each contact with a human being is so rare, so precious, one should preserve it.”
― Anaïs Nin
“In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.”
― Anne Frank
“How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.”
― William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice
“There is always more misery among the lower classes than there is humanity in the higher.”
― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables
“A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner: Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time. When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied, The one I feed the most.”
― George Bernard Shaw
