Edward Burtynsky did a series of Type 55 (b/w) polaroid test
shot positive/negative pictures when he was shooting his famous color
pictures of ship breaking in Chittagong, Bangladesh. These negs have now
been printed large and sold in limited edition sets. They also printed a
wonderful soft cover book that includes 10 compositions both the b/w
Type 55 negative and the color photo made soon after. My friend Larry
who collected one of these large b/w photographs (above) was also able to get me a
copy of the soft cover Pentimento book. I love Burtynsky's color images
but looking at the book I found that quite often the b/w photograph of
the same subject works better for me. Its quite amazing that a
throw away, scratched and scared test polaroid negative can years later
lead to a big money limited edition set, when your very good like
Burtynsky things like that happen!
