"Kodoku" Artist Statement?

Going to try submitting the Japanese Kodoku images made in December 2017. Here is a possible artist statement for that project.

Note* I believe I still have files from this series I have never viewed. Also never made a digi print of any of these. Might try printing them on Platinum as well.

"Kodoku" = Solitude in Japanese.

For me Japan is a place of silence, sadness and solitude. These photographs were made by an outsider looking in at a world and a culture he did not fully understand. Japan is a place of great beauty, of wonderful foods and a compelling and important history but I only felt an overriding foreboding. Life was passing it's people by, minute by minute, hour by hour, with no chance of jumping the que, no chance of individuality, no chance of standing out from the rest. Leaving the Japanese people with only the oppression of obedience, conformity and solitude "Kodoku".

Famous Japanese proverb "The nail that stands up gets hammered down."
