This photograph was made in a Poipet Cambodia slum a 1/2 a km or so away from where Thai fat cats gamble away millions of baht (Thai currency) in 5 or 6 large luxurious casinos. The boy was sitting on a board that led to the back of his home which was a wooden/metal shack located in the back behind a large Cambodian Buddhist temple. The area around the back of the home and under the board was filled with garbage of all kinds. The boy was very curious about me and laughed and enjoyed being photographed. The neg is high contrast, the boy was shot in deep shadow with a bright hot sun peaking through at various points. To see a child living like this is heart breaking, they have so little, there future is so limited and bleak but yet like this young boy they smile and laugh when your with them.
