In the guardhouse tonight I am working on possible show prints for the University of New Brunswick exhibitions in October(THE FAMILIES OF THE DUMP and THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE UNDER THE FREEWAY).
Here is a new image, discovered tonight. In the dump and in Klong Toey slum in Bangkok, I often get this look from very young children, sometimes it leads to a few tears. Having a big white dude walking at you, something you have never seen before can give a little apprehension. Now I try and crouch down and talk softly to the children as I approach, to lessen the MONSTER effect. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Usually the babies reaction draws lots of laughs from the adults.
Once the children get to around 2 years old thou, its the exact opposite. It becomes a big game for the slightly older children, they chase you about, laugh and play games around you.
