Was sharing the story of THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE UNDER THE FREEWAY, with a co worker. Here is that email.
Just scanned these film images in the last while. They are
part of the photo series THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE UNDER THE FREEWAY, made in Klong
Toey slum in Bangkok. The man’s name is Owen, he is 52 and has mental health
issues. Owen usually talks in a repetitive, paranoid, confused way when I meet
him. The second time I met him he spoke of the police arresting him over and
over again, not sure if it was true or part of the mental health problem. Will
try to photograph this man (along with 10 or so others) next trip, in his home,
telling the story of his life. So many people in situations like Mr.
Owens are simply ignored and forgotten, especially in Bangkok. Maybe the photos
can be shown more and that will lead to positives, money, awareness, education
about the lives of the forgotten and dismissed amongst us all.
