Today, Under The Freeway, Day #1

Some shots from my first day. I need to get into the habit of making social doc photos again!

From my FaceBook post on the return to making social doc images.

"

Edited a few of the shots from yesterday "under the freeway". Just a quick edit of the smaller Jpeg files (I have RAW versions of each file backed up 2 times).

I need to get back into shooting mode. I have not made social doc photos for around 3 years, only wet plate collodion ambrotypes. Its a different thing. Yesterday was mostly about introducing myself to all the new people, making friends again and trying to get back my shooting mojo.

Also it was the beginning of the donation work. We earned some money from print sales when 1-THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE UNDER THE FREEWAY picture and 5-THE FAMILIES OF THE DUMP photos were added to the University of New Brunswick collection in 2022 (UNB). I promised to use the money to help the people in the pictures. So I have started to do that now, through donations under the freeway with Thai people and will continue it when I return to the Dump, with my Burmese refugee friends there.

I think I will take 2 cameras today, the Canon and 1 of the Blads, not sure which one, probably the 45mm lens version. I want to do some closer head-body images. Show the true hearts of the people, emphasize their humanity.

Khun Ann wit the cat she loved. The cat had been attacked by dogs and she was taking care of it.
Khun Apple 36, a former Pattaya bar worker
Khun Dao, cleaning the streets in the slum during a heavy rain. I have known and photographed Dao since 2018.
Khun Pia outside his home. A former truck driver he is 66 with failing health. He sleeps in a room with a leaky cardboard roof. I have known and photographed him since 2018.
