Had a great day making photos in the dump today. I think (hope) I made several photos that could end up as final exhibition choices. The Rolleiflex got a real work out, shooting everything from landscapes to child portraits (close and far) as well as people working the garbage shots (will try for more of those tomorrow).
Of particular interest are some 5x7 portraits of a young boy sleeping partly out of his mosquito netting with the dump as a background. He was lying on a dirty mattress with his face, arm and upper body exposed with the rest covered. This boy could sleep through anything! Even when his mom came and tried to wake him up pushing, pulling and speaking loudly to him he still slept! I shot a bunch of film shooting him from different angles and compositions, probably did more than 10 shots of him, maybe 16 or so. Shooting that much film is not a good thing but I felt the photo was important so went for it. It might just turn into a key exhibition image. The scene was symbolic of much of what "Forgotten Laughter" is about, hopefully the photograph will match the feelings I had while making it.
