Book Thoughts!

The book thoughts from Facebook

TO GERRY FROM FSO

I used to write for a number of publications. Sometimes it’s hard to get started.

Here’s my advice:

Tell your story to several friends and family members. The more you tell it the easier it will be to write it down.

If you don’t like to work with pencil & paper, dictate it into your phone or laptop and then you can polish it up when you rewrite it

—and you must rewrite. Rewriting is better writing. And always have another set of eyes look at it before you get it published. A professional editor would be ideal. in any case, Editors are your best friend, because they will make you look your best.

AND

Just wanted to add that you definitely have stories to tell!

FROM GERRY TO FSO

FSO the idea is basically to tell photo stories. Show a photograph or series in a book and share the stories behind the image, the people, subjects lives, making of the  photograph etc.

I have sorta being doing that verbally for years at club meetings when I was a club guy and now at artist talks.

When I do it, people seem to enjoy it. So thought that it might work in book form. In a way it would also be a bit of an autobiography.

Thank you for your help and thoughts France. “Rewriting is better than writing.” That is great advice.

I have been doing more reading in retirement, Baldwin, Maugham, Dickens etc. Their words inspire you to create some of your own words of feelings, emotions. Not on their level of course but they’re yours which is sweet and fun.

The other thing is I do not want the people in the photographs to be forgotten. Writing a book will help that process, make them less likely to be ignored. A written, recorded memory, a tribute to them.
