Sebastião Salgado died of complications from severe leukemia, which developed from a particularly aggressive case of malaria he contracted while working in Indonesia in 2010.The award-winning Brazilian documentary photographer and environmentalist passed away in Paris on May 23, 2025, at the age of 81.
